Each year, tech, innovation and civic leaders meet at Smart Cities New York to collaborate and explore the newest ideas for making life better for Americans. The ideas range from large, complicated concepts like making the public safer to much more minute, targeted technology that can accurately predict when potholes will form.
These are ideas future-focused cities like Barcelona, Singapore and others have already adopted.
But while solutions like these can improve efficiency and quality of life and save money in the long run, they aren't free. City, state and federal leaders will have to make sound decisions with smart technology to reap the benefits Smart Cities New York is promising.
Throughout August and September, the Newsy channel will feature new episodes of "Smart Cities" focused on creating sustainable buildings, providing access to all citizens, engaging the next generation of leaders and more. Click here to check local listings.
In this episode, Newsy's Eugene Daniels sits down with Smart Cities New York creator Jerry Hultin.
