The controversial social media platform used by the suspect in a shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue over the weekend is now offline.

Gab.com said in a tweet Monday it took the site down "because we knew the media would take the bait and have stories on it for this morning."

message on the site said it's transitioning to a new hosting provider and will be down for a period of time.

Gab has faced increased scrutiny since Saturday's shooting, which left 11 people dead and six others wounded.

The suspected shooter had a profile on the platform, and he reportedly used it to post anti-Semitic messages.

Gab says it has a zero-tolerance policy for terrorism and violence. It's unclear when the site will go back online.
