Need some motivation for spring cleaning? Well, how about finding about a million dollars worth of baseball cards?
A Southern family, who opted to remain anonymous, found seven Ty Cobb baseball cards in a paper bag in their great-grandfather's home after he died. They took the cards to a dealer in South Carolina, and it was smooth sailing to the bank from there.
Joe Orlando, the man who authenticated the cards, tweeted, "There have been some amazing discoveries in our hobby, but I'm not sure if any find is better than the one we saw today. Simply incredible."
There are a few things that make this find so spectacular. First, there are seven of them; second, it's Ty Cobb; and third, it's a T206 card. Let me explain.
Ty Cobb, aka "The Georgia Peach," set 90 MLB records during his time on the diamond and still holds the record for highest career batting average.
As for the T206 cards, otherwise known as the white border set, they are considered by many to be the most famous group of baseball cards in history. The cards were made between 1909-1911 and few are thought to still exist. The most famous of the group, the Honus Wagner card, last sold for around $2.8 million.
So, needless to say, your elders' basements, attics and garages can be magical places, but you have to get in there and look.
