Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson immediately underwent surgery on Sunday after suffering a gruesome leg injury during the team's game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.

The team announced Monday morning that Hutchinson had surgery to repair a fractured tibia and fibula in Irving, Texas. They said he would return to Detroit this week and is expected to make a full recovery, but they did not release a timetable for his return to the field.

Hutchinson was carted off the field during the third quarter of the game when the Lions had the lead 34-6. Medical staff put an aircast on him to stabilize his leg before he was put on a stretcher and taken off the field.

As is standard with serious injuries, Fox refused to show a replay of the injury on the broadcast due to the gruesome nature of it.

The Lions ended up winning the game, 47-9, to improve to 4-1 on the season.
