The UFC has officially announced matches for the upcoming UFC 200, and it features only one of the two big rematches fans were looking for.
Conor McGregor will get the chance to avenge his March 5 loss to Nate Diaz. The match will again be fought at 170 pounds, which definitely tips the scales in Diaz’s favor.
But give McGregor credit for stepping up to the challenge. The Irishman still holds the title belt for the 145-pound featherweight division but going two divisions above his own is an immense challenge.
While McGregor is busy fighting 25 pounds heavier than normal, Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo will battle for the interim featherweight title in an undercard bout.
So far, there are no women scheduled to fight in UFC 200. Ronda Rousey said months ago she wouldn’t be ready for the event, but fellow bantamweights Holly Holm and Miesha Tate are also nowhere to be found.
Tate beat Holm by submission at UFC 196 to take the bantamweight title the same night as the McGregor-Diaz fight, so they should be ready to get back in the octagon for the event as well.
But while a Tate-Holm match isn't on the card just yet, the UFC still has plenty of time to add more bouts.
UFC 200 is scheduled for July 9 in Las Vegas.
