The deal would be the largest trade agreement in history even without the U.S., and it would allow for tariff-free trade between members, boost intellectual property protections and open markets to free trade.
Japan, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Chile, Peru, New Zealand and Brunei — dubbed "Ocean's Eleven" by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe — have drafted a revised deal that excludes several provisions included in the original. They said the new agreement would still maintain "the high standard and comprehensive nature of the Agreement."
But the new Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, or CPTPP, isn't a surefire thing just yet.
