George Clooney has penned a piece slamming a Daily Mail article, but what about his own track record with the media?

George Clooney in a back and forth with The Daily Mail — the actor spoke out against an article, and he's gotten a response.

He's calling a story published by The Daily Mail Monday "completely fabricated."

The article appears to have been taken down, but it claimed Clooney's fiancee's mother is against their marriage for religious reasons. Clooney wrote in USA Today...

"The irresponsibility, in this day and age, to exploit religious differences where none exist, is at the very least negligent and more appropriately dangerous. ... when [The Daily Mail puts] my family and my friends in harm's way, they cross far beyond just a laughable tabloid and into the arena of inciting violence."

According to Clooney, the outlet falsely claimed that Alamuddin's mother is Druze, and that she was joking about Druze traditions that involve the death of a bride.

The Daily Mail has since responded, with a spokesperson telling The Washington Post, "The MailOnline story was not a fabrication but supplied in good faith by a reputable and trusted freelance journalist. ... [we] have launched a full investigation. However, we accept Mr Clooney’s assurance that the story is inaccurate and we apologise ..."

The outlet also says it's reached out to Clooney's reps to give him the opportunity to "set the record straight." Seems Clooney thought he already had — so is there more to the story?

Clooney said in his piece for USA Today he "seldom" responds to tabloids, but it was just October when he last spoke out, telling Peoplemagazine that tabloid rumors he was dating Amal Alamuddin were "all made up."

By April he was engaged...to Amal Alamuddin.

Interestingly, his piece directed at The Daily Mail is the first time the actor has publicly confirmed he is engaged.

Now, we're not implying here that Clooney is lying about The Daily Mail's story being inaccurate, but the actor's record with the press isn't as pure as he might like to think.

Because, let's recall..he told media on many occasions that marriage was not for him. (Via CNN)

And this whole story started over his...upcoming marriage.
