As if HBO's "True Detective" wasn't making enough headlines with it's whopping 12 Emmy nominations, casting rumors have it back in the news again Friday.
Deadline reports that Colin Farrell is "deep in negotiations" to play one of the series lead roles when it returns for its second season.
The Irish actor most recently appeared in "Saving Mr. Banks" and box office disappointment "Winter's Tale." (Via Disney)
The Wire points out this could be a career revival for Farrell who has been in a bit of a slump but is "commonly regarded as a good actor who often gets mired in bad studio projects."
HBO's anthology series is fresh off a highly successful first season and now it's in the early stages of work on it's second season, which will feature an entirely different story, setting and characters.

But the shows creator, Nic Pizzolatto, kept things pretty close to the chest in a sit down with The Daily Beast Thursday.
When asked if the show had even begun casting yet he responded with a simple "No." (Via The Daily Beast)
But this contrasts with HBO President Michael Lombardo's statement that a major casting announcement could be coming as soon as next week. (ViaEntertainment Weekly)
Pizzolatto was a bit more open in an interview with HitFix where he revealed the story will center around "the secret occult history of the United States transportation system."
He also confirmed the next season will be set in California and will focus on four leading characters
And TheWrap is reporting that one of those characters could be played by Taylor Kitsch.
Kitsch recently starred in the HBO film "The Normal Heart." He also played the title character in Disney's big-budget flop "John Carter." (Via HBO / The Normal Heart, Disney / John Carter)
No one is saying much else but Lombardo did say he had read the scripts for the first two episodes and fans have plenty of exciting things awaiting them next season.
