A little boy is safe and a suspect is in custody Wednesday after a Colorado man allegedly kidnapped the child and carjacked three different vehicles while leading law enforcement on an hour-long car chase.

Police say it all started when the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Ryan Stone, stole a red SUV in Longmont, Colo., with a 4-year-old boy inside. Police issued an Amber Alert once they realized the boy had been taken. (Via KUSA)

Stone then sped down interstates and through neighborhoods before blocking a gold minivan, according to authorities. KMGH captured helicopter video of the suspect carjacking the van, leaving the 4-year-old behind in the first vehicle.

But it didn’t stop there. Police say Stone crashed the second stolen vehicle once, kept driving, then slammed into another car. They say he snatched the other car’s driver, threw her to the ground, then sped off again. (Via KCNC

After crashing the last car at an intersection and attempting to carjack a fourth vehicle, authorities say Stone took off on foot. He didn’t get far before police caught up with him and took him into custody. (Via KDVR)

The Denver Post reports Stone clipped at least six cars and even struck a Colorado state trooper during the ordeal. It adds that Stone “has an 11-page criminal record that includes assault, receiving stolen property, weapons possession, flight, child abuse and drug offenses.”

KUSA reports the trooper who was hit underwent surgery and is expected to survive. The news station says prosecutors are mulling over charges that could put Stone behind bars for the rest of his life.
