Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz put up some monster numbers against the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series this year. And apparently, he kept putting them up, in a different sense, after the baseball season ended.
"MVP David Ortiz received the third most votes via write-in in the Boston mayoral race." (Via WFXT)
According to WGBH, the Boston Election Department reported there were 560 write-in votes during Tuesday's election, and Big Papi got more than anyone else.
The exact number of votes Ortiz got is unknown. But even if all 560 write-ins had his name on them, he still would have fallen short of mayor-elect Marty Walsh's nearly 72,000 votes. (Via New York Daily News)
The city of Boston's press office didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
But once city officials broke their silence, they told WBZ-TV Ortiz did not finish third in the election.
In fact, officials said they don't even bother counting votes for people who aren't official write-in candidates listed on the ballot. So no one really knows exactly how many people voted for Ortiz. (Via WBZ-TV)
But even if he didn't really come in third in the mayoral race, we're sure David Ortiz will find comfort in the fact that he took home the World Series MVP title while helping bring his team to victory this year. (Via ESPN)
