Katie CammarataThe Georgia Secretary of State's Office has launched an investigation into the state's Democratic Party for an alleged "failed attempt to hack the state's voter registration system."
The office said it contacted the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI immediately regarding its claims.
In the statement, a spokeswoman said the office couldn't comment on the specifics of the investigation but could confirm that no personal information was breached and the system is secure. The Secretary of State's Office didn't provide any other details or evidence.
The move comes just two days before midterm elections.
And Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp is the state's Republican candidate for governor. He's currently locked in a tight race against Democrat Stacey Abrams.
The Georgia Democratic Party called the allegations false and said Kemp was abusing his power as secretary of state. Part of his job is overseeing elections.
This isn't the first time Georgia's voting system has come under question this year — but most criticisms have been leveled at election officials.
On Friday, a federal judge said Georgia has to make it easier for new U.S. citizens to vote. And last month, that same judge ruled election officials can't reject absentee ballots or voter applications because of alleged mismatched signatures without giving voters time to fix them.
