James PackardPresident Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani was on "Meet The Press" recently, and he started talking about that infamous meeting in Trump Tower with a Russian group promising dirt on Hillary Clinton. In particular, he made some claims about the Russian lawyer who was present, Natalia Veselnitskaya.
"She didn't represent the Russian government, she's a private citizen. I don't even know if they knew she was Russian at the time," Giuliani said. "All they knew is that woman with a Russian name wanted to meet with them."
They knew she was Russian. We know that because the president's son, who was at the meeting, tweeted out an email chain in which one of the meeting organizers told him that.
In early June 2016, a business associate of then-candidate Donald Trump emailed Donald Trump Jr. and said the crown prosecutor of Russia had incriminating information on Hillary Clinton and wanted to pass it along to the Trump campaign. He said in a later email that he was setting up a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. and "the Russian government attorney who is flying over from Moscow."
In other words: They knew she was Russian. Full stop. Giuliani's claim is totally false.
