The state's Republican Party is looking to claim its first statewide office in eight years.
The Republican National Committee is showing its commitment to winning statewide elections through its efforts in the Virginia governors race. Democrats there spent $1.5 million to hire 40 people, whereas Republicans spent $3 million to hire 80. And the extra commitment makes sense: Republicans haven't won a statewide race in Virginia in eight years.
