Hans Rosling — Swedish doctor, statistician and TED Talk aficionado — has died. He was 68 years old.

Rosling called himself an "edutainer." He made a name for himself turning boring statistics on global health, prosperity and population into engaging, visual animations.

"You can see that China is getting — the big bubble — is getting to better health, and then they start family planning, and they move along to smaller families," Rosling said as his bubble graph danced through the air during a hologram presentation.

Rosling died a year after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and a brother. He also leaves behind the Gapminder Foundation, a nonprofit that promotes global development.
