North Korea and South Korea are reportedly moving forward with plans to reconnect their railways and roads.

According to several reports out Monday, South Korea's Unification Ministry said the two countries will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on the project sometime before the end of the year.

The ministry said in a statement, "The South and North reached the agreement after sincerely discussing action plans to develop inter-Korean relations to a new, higher stage."

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in agreed to reconnect those links when they met at the border village of Panmunjom earlier this year.

Railways and roads connecting the two Koreas have been cut since the end of the Korean War in 1953.
