The most profitable quarter of any company ever. Let that sink in. Coming off a better-than-expected holiday season, tech giant Apple made a record $18 billion profit from an estimated $74.6 billion in revenue in one quarter.

That's more money than the worldwide coffee industry will generate in a year.

More than all the money generated by the NFL, NBA and MLB last year.

And, perhaps most importantly, more than what Google and Microsoft brought in last quarter combined.

Oddly enough, more than two-thirds of that $74.6 billion comes from iPhone sales; $51 billion worth or about 74 million iPhones sold during during the holidays. (Video via Apple)

And while sales for the iPad have continued to fall this quarter, it is still performing better than any other tablet on the market. That means you, Samsung Galaxy, Amazon Kindle Fire and Lenovo Yoga. Apple still controls more than 20 percent of the tablet market.

Samsung and Google are set to release their holiday earnings numbers Thursday.
