Greece has a new prime minister. Conservative party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis was sworn in Monday, a day after beating out former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
Mitsotakis' election signals a departure from European countries' recent turn from mainstream political parties to populists and euroskeptics.
Mitsotakis — the son of a former prime minister — ran on a campaign of reinvigorating Greece's economy by lowering taxes and making the country more business-friendly, among other things.
In Sunday's election, Mitsotakis' party won nearly 40% of the vote, giving him 158 seats out of 300 in the country’s parliament.
