Netflix is cornering the streaming market on superheroes thanks to its first-ever acquisition.

It purchased publisher Millarworld, probably best known for comics like "Kick-Ass" and "Kingsman: The Secret Service"; both have already made the jump to the big screen.

Prior to running Millarworld, creator Mark Millar wrote Marvel comics that inspired movies like "Captain America: Civil War" and "Logan."

"Mark is as close as you can get to a modern say Stan Lee," said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos in a statement.

Netflix didn't go into specifics about what it will create with Millarworld — but it has more than a dozen franchises to choose from.

Millar was equally mum on which of his comics will become Netflix originals. But he did say in a blog post that "Kick-Ass" and "Kingsman" aren't part of the deal.

The new characters add to the streaming company's already hefty library of superhero content. Thanks to a team-up with Marvel, Netflix rolled out original series featuring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luge Cage and Iron Fist. All four will unite in the upcoming series "Marvel's Defenders."

sixth collaboration between the two companies called "Marvel's the Punisher" is also in the works.

And Netflix viewers can stream Marvel movies released in 2016 or later thanks to the company's exclusive deal with Disney. Netflix is also the streaming home to the CW's DC superhero TV lineup.

But Hulu is hot on its competitor's heels. In November, it'll debut "Marvel's Runaways," an original superhero series adapted from the Marvel comic.
