A spokesperson for the New York Police Department told ESPN Felton was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a firearm, which are both felonies. He was also charged with fourth-degree possession of a firearm, which is a misdemeanor.
According to several local media outlets, Felton was questioned by police Tuesday morning after allegedly pointing a gun at an unidentified woman. Several sources say that woman was his girlfriend. (Via New York Post)
But according to the New York Daily News, it was his estranged wife that went to police with his gun, ultimately leading to his arrest.
The NYPD spokesperson told reporters Felton's charges stem from him possessing a firearm he wasn't registered to have — not because he was using it in a "menacing manner." (Via MSG)
The finer details of the incident are still unclear. But we do know Felton is expected to appear in criminal court in Manhattan sometime Tuesday.

And it looks like his personal life isn't the only thing suffering. As ESPN notes, the 29-year-old has put up career-low numbers this season.
But, as the New York Daily News points out, he was able to survive last week's trade deadline and will stay with the Knicks for the rest of the season, "for better or for worse."

Felton's arrest took place just a few hours after the Knicks fell to the Dallas Mavericks at Madison Square Garden Monday night. It's unclear exactly where the alleged incident took place.
