Firefighters in New York City responded to reports of an explosion at a building in East Harlem Wednesday morning.

According to WNYW, authorities responded to reports of a loud explosion, followed by a building collapse in the heavily populated area of the city at 116th and Park Avenue.

CNN is reporting at least 11 people have been taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.

Though details from the scene are scarce, The New York Times is reporting — at least one person is dead — and it’s possible there are people trapped in the rubble. A woman who lives about four blocks from the scene told WNBC the explosion sounded like a bomb.

"There was nothing that would have given me a clue this was about to happen. It was a complete shock. It shook my building so hard, I literally was thinking my building was falling down."

The cause of the damage is still unclear. According to a Huffington Post reporter, this is what the building used to look like.
