Primary voters in four states will head to the polls Tuesday — here's what you should know.
The U.S. Senate candidate showdown in West Virginia may be the most closely watched primary. In this race, Rep. Evan Jenkins, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey and former coal executive Don Blankenship are all running for the nomination.
The winner will go on to face Democratic incumbent Sen. Joe Manchin in the November midterms. Manchin also has a Democratic challenger, Paula Jean Swearengin, but she's unlikely to be much of a challenger at all.
It'll also be a three-way Senate race in Indiana, where Republican candidates Rep. Todd Rokita, Rep. Luke Messer and former state Rep. Mike Braun are all hoping for a spot in the midterms. The GOP nominee will face incumbent Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly.
Voters in the next state over, Ohio, will choose both a Republican and Democratic gubernatorial candidate. The winners will face off in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. John Kasich. On the Democratic side it's former attorney general Richard Cordray versus former Rep. Dennis Kucinich; for the GOP it's Attorney General Mike DeWine versus Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor.
And there are several primaries for congressional seats down south in North Carolina. Two Democrats, former state Rep. Linda Coleman and businessman Ken Romley, are in a competitive race for the state's second congressional district seat; the nominee will challenge incumbent Republican Rep. George Holding.
