"I am proud to be gay. I am proud to be a Republican. But most of all, I am proud to be an American," Peter Thiel said.

PayPal founder and Donald Trump supporter Peter Thiel made history Thursday night.

He's the first to openly address his sexuality on stage at a Republican National Convention.

He's not the first openly gay man ever on stage at one of these events — Jim Kolbe did it back in 2000. But he only talked about trade.

Thiel, however, spoke on the state of the economy, foreign wars and Hillary Clinton.

But perhaps the biggest takeaway from his speech?

"I don't pretend to agree with every plank in our party's platform, but fake culture wars only distract us from our economic decline," Thiel said.
