U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings is in the hospital following a "minor procedure" for a knee infection.

Cummings has been in the hospital since Dec. 29, and the lawmaker dealt with health issues for much of 2017. Back in May, Cummings underwent a "minimally invasive" heart surgery and spent the next couple months recovering from a resulting infection.

Amid the news of Cummings' hospitalization, his wife, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, announced she would suspend her Maryland gubernatorial campaign for personal reasons. She didn't specify if the decision was related to her husband's health.
