'Roseanne' Returns To TV With Record Ratings

Only one other episode of another scripted TV show drew a larger number of viewers this season.

After being off the air for more than two decades, "Roseanne" is back in a big way.

An estimated 18.2 million people tuned in to watch the revival's premiere Tuesday on ABC. Even more impressive — 18.6 million viewers turned on their TVs for the second episode.

The only scripted episode of television that's drawn higher ratings so far this season is one from NBC's "This Is Us" that aired after the Super Bowl.

Beyond the nostalgia factor, "Roseanne" got a lot of attention in the press leading up to its premiere because the character Roseanne Conner is a supporter of President Donald Trump — just like the actress who plays her.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, some of the TV markets that drew the most "Roseanne" viewers Tuesday — like Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Cincinnati — were in states Trump won in 2016, according to Deadline.

The premiere might've drawn a few White House viewers, too. Trump personally called actress Roseanne Barr on Wednesday to congratulate her on the success of the reboot.
