Three-time Olympian and all-time bro Ryan Lochte has been forced to take some time away from the pool after a literal run-in with a fan Sunday.

The official statement reads:

“As a result of a freak injury caused by an unexpected fan encounter, Ryan has suffered a torn MCL and an ACL sprain and will be taking a break from training and competition.” (Video: NBC)

Reports say a teenage girl ran at the former reality-TV star. He caught her, but then the two fell over. Lochte hit his knee on the curb, according to Lochte’s representative. (Via E!)

“His medical team expects him to make a full and speedy recovery.” (Video: AT&T)

Which, a writer for Bleacher Report reminds us, isn’t a real timetable.

“It's unclear how long this injury will keep him out of the pool. But with the 2016 Summer Olympics still years away, it's highly unlikely this will affect Lochte's status within the United States swimming hierarchy.”

ESPN reports Lochte’s next scheduled competition is the Duel in the Pool in Scotland on December 20 and 21st.
