Senate Goes Home For Christmas Without A Budget Deal In Sight

It looks like this partial government shutdown is going to last for a while. 

On Saturday afternoon, day one of the shutdown, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell adjourned the chamber till Dec. 27. 

That decision indicates the Trump administration and Congress aren't any closer to striking a compromise on the budget. 

President Donald Trump is refusing to sign any budget legislation that doesn't include $5 billion for a border wall. 

"But the fact is, we need the wall. The Democrats know it. Everybody knows it," Trump said in a video. 

But Democrats refuse to pass any legislation that does include wall funding.

"It will never pass the Senate, not today, not next week, not next year. So Mr. President, President Trump, if you want to open the government, you must abandon the wall plain and simple," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said.

If this shutdown is going to end, the two sides need to find a compromise.
