Investigators are still unsure what exactly caused a small plane to make an emergency landing on a New York expressway Saturday afternoon.

“The plane touched down just before 3:30 this afternoon on the Major Deegan Expressway. This is in the Bronx, as you know.” (Via WTXF)

“That’s a Piper Cherokee that you’re looking at right now. The highway at this time in the area of Van Cortlandt Park is still closed down, but they are attempting to tow that plane out of there.” (Via WNYW)

WNBC reports three people were on board the plane but none of them had serious injuries. The hospital they were taken to says out of the three, two were men and one a woman.

CNN reports the plane experienced engine trouble, but was able to avoid cars while making its emergency landing on the highway.

Emergency officials say the plane left Danbury, Conn., and made a lap around the Statue of Liberty. It was on its way back to Danbury when it started having trouble. (Via New York Daily News)

The plane landed in the northbound side of the expressway, where traffic was later backed up as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
