The great Suez Canal debacle didn't just hurt international business; the environment suffered, too. The amount of sulfur dioxide was five times higher than normal levels because of ships idling in the canal. Sulfur dioxide can cause respiratory issues and acid rain. Luckily, it returned to normal levels when the Ever Given was freed from the canal.
