Sebastián Martínez ValdiviaThe Supreme Court on Friday refused to delay a trial over the Trump administration's attempt to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.
The trial, which is set to begin Monday, stems from accusations that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross acted in bad faith by adding the question, which would ask respondents if they're U.S. citizens.
The states and cities that filed suit argue the question is meant to intimidate immigrants into not participating in the census. It's been almost 70 years since the question was put to all U.S. households as part of a national census.
The Supreme Court has intervened in the case before — overruling a lower court decision that would've compelled Ross to testify as part of the trial.
