Tax filing season is officially underway.

The Internal Revenue Service started accepting returns for the 2017 tax year on Monday. And the agency says it's expecting a lot this year — about 155 million individual returns.

Americans will have a few extra days this year to get those returns in. That's because the traditional April 15 deadline falls on a Sunday, and the next day happens to be a legal holiday.

But you shouldn't need that extra time to figure out how the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will affect your return.

Most of the changes from the new legislation will go into effect for 2018 taxes, so they shouldn't affect the majority of taxpayers this time around.
