A coat that transforms into a sleeping bag can keep the homeless warm.
The Empowerment Plan hires single parents from Detroit's homeless shelters. The positions have helped the employees get back on their feet, get housing and a steady paycheck.
"A coat is just a Band-Aid for a systemic issue, and what would really have the impact is hiring the population that would need them in the first place," Veronika Scott, CEO of The Empowerment Plan, said.

The nonprofit has given 15,000 coats to those who need them the most in the U.S. and Canada.
The Empowerment Plan says it wants its company's model to be replicated in other cities.
