OK, so Jessica Chastain is not staring in "True Detective" season two, and we have no idea who is, but we do have a little something from the series' creator, Nic Pizzolatto. (Via Flickr / Gorden Correll)

"Right now, we're working with three leads. It takes place in California. ... The characters are all new, but I'm deeply in love with each of them. ... We'll probably start casting in earnest in the coming months." (Via To the Best of Our Knowledge)

"True Detective" is an anthology series, which means we know HBO is bringing it back, but we have no idea where or with whom. The only people off the table are Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who starred in season one.

In another interview, Pizzolatto gave small insight into the season two storyline, telling HitFix, "[It's about] hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system."

One rumor that has not been debunked just yet: Brad Pitt could star in season two. But it's about as speculative as speculation goes. Only one outlet, the Daily Star, has reported that — and it cited an anonymous source.

The collective Internet, of course, has its own suggestions for who should take over for season two, but we're pretty sure their sources aren't confirmed either. (Via Twitter)

The one thing we do know is that until the cast is revealed, these rumors will continue because ...

"Time is a flat circle."
