"Regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election coming up in November against my administration," President Trump said.

President Donald Trump made that assertion at the United Nations Security Council meeting Wednesday. Reuters reports as Trump left the U.N., he told reporters there was quote "plenty of evidence" but didn't provide any.

"They do not want me or us to win, because I am the first president ever to challenge China on trade. We are winning on trade. We are winning at every level," Trump said.

A senior administration official later said China's interference is a coordinated effort that's "reached an unacceptable level." Examples of China's alleged actions include targeting free speech on college campuses, spending billions on propaganda, and hurting farmers and workers in states that voted for Trump.
