The Trump administration approved more than $1 billion in arms sales to Saudi Arabia, including thousands of missiles.

The State Department approved the sale on Thursday. The deal includes more than 6,500 anti-tank missiles made by Raytheon.

Some U.S. lawmakers tried to end U.S. military support for a Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen. Saudi Arabia's intense air campaign against the region has decimated the country, already one of the poorest in the Middle East. The conflict has also been criticized for its heavy civilian casualties.

In addition to the missiles, the deal includes helicopter maintenance support and parts for land vehicles.
