President Donald Trump has officially nominated Eugene Scalia to be secretary of labor.
He's the son of late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. He previously worked at the Labor Department during the George W. Bush administration and was an assistant to Attorney General William Barr. He's currently a partner at a law firm.
President Trump suggested Scalia for the job after former Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta resigned in July.
Acosta stepped down amid scrutiny of his handling of a sex crimes case involving Jeffrey Epstein when he was a federal prosecutor in Florida.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a confirmation hearing for Scalia after lawmakers return from recess. The committee will have to approve him in before his nomination goes to the Senate floor for a full vote.
