The United Nations Security Council has blacklisted a number of shipping companies and ships the panel accused of helping North Korea get around international sanctions.

In total, 27 ships, 21 companies and one individual will be either banned from docking or have their assets frozen.

The penalties come as North Korea seems to be going through diplomatic channels to ease tensions and ultimately lighten crippling sanctions it faces on coal, fuel and other commodities. Kim Jong-un recently visited China, marking his first trip abroad since taking power.

But the Trump administration has called on the rest of the world to maintain pressure on the Kim regime. Many of the ships and companies banned by the U.N. had already been sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department.
