A North Carolina kidnapping victim is back home safe and sound after an elite FBI team rescued him from an apartment complex in Atlanta Wednesday.
"The FBI says Frank Arthur Janssen had been abducted but is now safe after the team rescued him minutes before noon Wednesday from an apartment complex where he was held in southeast Atlanta." (Via WALB)
An FBI spokesperson confirmed in a statement obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that 63-year-old Janssen was the target of a kidnapping plot and had been saved by an FBI Hostage Rescue team.
WAGA reports Janssen was reported missing from his home on April 5. But no other details into his reported kidnapping or rescue have been released amid what the FBI is calling an "open and active" investigation. (Via WWAY)
Authorities have also refused to release a possible motive for the kidnapping or say whether any arrests have been made.
During the week, Janssen does commute to Washington, D.C., for his job at a national security consulting firm. But investigators told WSB-TV they don't believe his job had anything to do with it.
FBI officials are expected to hold a press conference on the case late Thursday afternoon. In the meantime, Janssen is reportedly being reunited with family.
