Thirty percent of Van — a small Texas city of 2,600 people — has been badly damaged or destroyed after Sunday's severe weather.

"It's making such a racket, I thought it was peeling the roof off. ... I thought, 'This is it; I'm gone,'" a woman told WFAA.

The damage was definitely caused by severe weather in the area, but as of Monday morning, it hadn't been confirmed that it was a tornado. (Video via NBC)

But The Weather Channel did say there was a tornado spotted in the county where Van is located.

At least 10 are missing since the storm system went through, and more than 25 injuries have been reported.

The county marshal has confirmed multiple deaths, but the exact number is unknown.

But out of the devastation, there are incredible stories of survival:

"Just a few minutes ago, we spoke with a man whose parents survived the storm, but they were both injured from flying debris," a KXAS reporter said.

And another highlighted in this journalist's tweet about a local man named Nathan Mims. He lost everything but was thankful his two dogs were still alive.

KYTX reports about 15 fire departments from five counties have been helping the community.

The suspected tornado follows a week of severe weather in the southern and central regions in the U.S. According to The Weather Channel, on Saturday alone there were 40 reports of tornadoes in five states.
