A group of 37 former Ohio State University students, most of them athletes, are suing the school for how it handled sexual abuse allegations against a former team physician. They filed the lawsuit on Wednesday.

Dr. Richard Strauss died by suicide in 2005. The lawsuit says he sexually assaulted and abused hundreds of students, all male, while working at the school from 1978 to 1998. It also alleges OSU officials "actively concealed Strauss' sexual predation."

An independent report by a law firm, released in May, found some university employees knew about complaints that Strauss had sexually abused students, but failed to investigate. The report said he sexually abused at least 177 male students.

On Friday, the university's board of trustees voted unanimously to revoke Strauss' emeritus status.
