At least six people are dead and more than 50 are injured after an Amtrak train derailed on a bridge over a major highway in Washington state.

Police said 13 cars came off the tracks and fell onto the interstate Monday morning. As of Monday afternoon, rescue operations have not begun.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office said today was the first day of public use of the tracks after weeks of inspections and testing.

It isn't yet clear what caused the derailment.
