Seven people are seriously injured after a car sped out of control at a busy intersection in midtown Manhattan and rammed into several pedestrians before crashing into a fashion store late Wednesday night.
WPIX says the driver lost control of her Ford Mustang in Herald Square near 34th Street and 6th Avenue. She reportedly collided with several vehicles, jumped a curb and plowed through several people before smashing into a Forever 21 store.
Six people, including the driver, were reportedly rushed to Bellevue Hospital. Sources also told WABC "the woman driving the car has been arrested and is facing a DWI charge."
Eye-witness Matty Thomas told WCBS, "She ... went through the intersection, skidded out, fishtailed, then fishtailed again the other way and smacked into all the cars ... Cut across, she jumped the curb, and literally five bodies flying in the air."
One man who claims to have witnessed the event also tweeted that a "little girl [was] pinned on other side of the car," which a number of media outlets reported in their coverage.
And Gothamist later reported sources saying, "[she] was saved by the glass window. She flew through it. The glass saved her life."
New York officials say all of the people involved in the accident are in serious condition, though the injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
