Barbara Bush Released From Hospital

The former first lady spent nearly a week in a Houston hospital fighting pneumonia. She was released Saturday.

A family spokesman has confirmed former first lady Barbara Bush was released from a Houston hospital Saturday after spending several days fighting pneumonia.

The 88-year-old checked into Houston Methodist Hospital on Dec. 30. Her illness came less than a week after her latest public appearance in the Houston area. (Via KPRC)

Specific information about Bush's condition was hard to come by while she was in the hospital, but she was said to be in good spirits when she checked into the hospital. (Via KTRK)

In a statement, Bush said: "I cannot thank the doctors and nurses at Houston Methodist enough for making sure I got the best treatment and got back to George and our dogs as quickly as possible." (Via CNN)

The elder Bushes have had their fair share of health issues over the last few years, along with several hospital stays. (Via KHOU)

In late 2012, former President George H. W. Bush was hospitalized for seven weeks. He received treatment for bronchitis as well as a bacterial infection. (Via NBC)

The latest stay was Barbara Bush's fourth time being checked into Houston Methodist. She was previously hospitalized in 2008, 2009 and 2010 for separate health issues.

On a lighter note, WABC points out Mr. and Mrs. Bush will celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary Monday.
