A gunman fatally shot a professor at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, Monday morning.
Police say the man killed was history professor Ethan Schmidt. The Bolivar County deputy coroner said Schmidt was shot in his office on campus.
Police say two shell casings were found in the professor's office.
Authorities sent a warning to students and staff just before 11 a.m. local time, placing the school on lockdown. The alert said a shooter was identified on campus.
About 4,000 students attend the university, which is located in northwest Mississippi near the Arkansas state line.
