Oregon Community College Shooter Confirmed Dead

Local authorities confirmed Thursday afternoon the suspected shooter at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon is dead.

The suspect in the Umpqua Community College shooting in Roseburg, Oregon is dead, authorities told reporters Thursday.

“Officers engaged that suspect. There was an exchange of gunfire. The shooter threat was neutralized,” Douglas County Sheriff Jon Hanlin told reporters

Oregon State Police say the shooting was first reported at 10:38 a.m. local time. 

“It was in the science building. They put the entire campus on lockdown,” The Roseburg Beacon reporter David Jaques told CNN

“Next thing you know, my friend’s running in from outside saying there was a shooting and someone is shooting on campus and people are being shot,” Umpqua Community College Student Lacey Gregory told KOIN

State police, local agencies, the FBI and U.S. Marshals all responded to the shooting. 

Umpqua Community College is located on a rural campus and, according to The Oregonian, “Students who have proper paperwork are allowed to carry guns on campus.”

More than 20 people were injured in the shooting, with many of them being treated at nearby hospitals. (Video via KOIN)
