Authorities have confirmed multiple people are dead in a shooting in southern Ohio.

The details surrounding the incident are still unclear. But the attorney general's office in Ohio confirmed "multiple homicides" had been reported outside of Peebles, a town about 70 miles east of Cincinnati.

A nearby resident told Newsy's partners at WCPO: "The mail carrier told me there's something seriously bad going on up the road. ... I'm not very far."

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation told the outlet it was working three scenes in the area. The bureau also confirmed it is sending more than a dozen agents to investigate.

There have been no reports of an active shooter or any arrests. As a precaution, nearby schools were on lockdown.
