The suspect in the Parkland, Florida, school shooting that killed 17 people has been formally charged with 17 counts of first-degree murder. 

A grand jury also charged the 19-year-old suspect with 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder. If convicted, he could face the death penalty. 

Investigators say the suspect confessed to the shooting. As Newsy previously reported, the suspect's attorney said he's willing to plead guilty if prosecutors agree not to seek a death sentence.
