Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel says he's not going to step down.
He's being criticized for how his department handled the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on Feb. 14.
Israel's department reportedly received multiple tips about the suspect before the shooting. In a letter to Florida's governor, state Rep. Bill Hager said Israel should have known that the gunman posed a threat to the community and that Israel "chose to ignore it."
Israel responded to the letter on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.
"It was a shame — of course I won't resign. It's a shameful letter. It was politically motivated," Israel said.
