California is looking to boost its restrictions on firearms with a range of measures Governor Jerry Brown signed into law on Friday.

One of those measures raises the legal age limit for buying shotguns and rifles from 18 to 21, joining Florida, Hawaii and Illinois — the only other states with similar limits.

Another measure the governor signed institutes a lifetime ban on gun ownership for people convicted of domestic violence on or after January 1, 2019.

Other measures make it easier for family members and authorities to request gun violence restraining orders. The NRA has already criticized the measures, and has pursued legal challenges against similar laws in other states.
