Emergency officials evacuated residents from a Baltimore, Maryland neighborhood Wednesday as heavy rains and flooding possibly caused a street to collapse into a massive ditch, taking trees and cars along with it.
The collapse took place around 4 p.m. local time at a section of 26th Street and Charles Street in Charles Village. Residents told local reporters they heard a loud rumble like something out of a movie before seeing cars and trees falling into the ditch. (Via WBFF)
The Baltimore Sun says no injuries were reported after the landslide caused the street to collapse onto a CSX rail track just below. Emergency crews worked late into the evening to tow cars teetering on the edge of the damaged street.
Maryland DOT inspectors don't yet know why the street collapsed, but several residents in the area say the street structure has been an ongoing problem dating back years. (Via WMAR)

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and city inspectors were on the scene late Wednesday assessing the damage, but residents across from where the street collapsed will not be allowed to return home Wednesday night.
