Chelsea Manning has been released from prison decades early.

Manning was freed from Fort Leavenworth military prison in Kansas on Wednesday morning after serving just seven years of her 35-year sentence.

In 2013, Manning was convicted of leaking hundreds of thousands of classified government documents to WikiLeaks. Her release date was originally scheduled for 2045.

But former President Barack Obama commuted her sentence just days before he left office.

Manning will remain an active-duty soldier in the U.S. Army. She won't be paid a salary, but she will be eligible for health care benefits.
